According to the research, carried out by the Graduate School of Economics and International Relations (Aseri–Alta Scuola in Economia e Relazioni Internazionali dell'Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore of Milan) and promoted by Federcongressi, the Italian congress sector enjoys good health and has what it takes to make the country an even more popular destination for international association conferences, sources of wealth and a tool of promotion for the destination itself. In 2017 398,286 congresses and events were held in Italy (+ 2,9% in comparison to 2016) with 29,085,493 participants (+3,2%), 43,376,812 overnight stays (+1,6%) and the total amount of the duration of 559,637 days (+2,8%).
