According to the research, carried out by the Graduate School of Economics and International Relations (Aseri–Alta Scuola in Economia e Relazioni Internazionali dell'Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore of Milan) and promoted by Federcongressi, the Italian congress sector enjoys good health and has what it takes to make the country an even more popular destination for international association conferences, sources of wealth and a tool of promotion for the destination itself. In 2017 398,286 congresses and events were held in Italy (+ 2,9% in comparison to 2016) with 29,085,493 participants (+3,2%), 43,376,812 overnight stays (+1,6%) and the total amount of the duration of 559,637 days (+2,8%).

In Turin there are 175 conference venues, of which 56% are hotels. The institutional (17.7%) and historic (9.7%) venues follow. In 2017, 11,303 events were held for a total of 960,897 participants: 2,300 events with a duration of more than one day, which generated 11.4% of attendance in hotels. Companies organise the largest number of events (65.2%), which are held for 68.2% in conference hotels. Expectations for 2018 are positive: 45.2% of respondents expect stable turnover, 41.9% an increase.
