The City of Torino got ISO 20121 certification for the sustainable management of its cultural events.

The certificate was issued by the Bureau Veritas and it guarantees compliance with the requirements for the development of a sustainable event management system. The first event organized through the application of the UNI ISO 20121: 2013 standard was the FestivalMITO Settembre Musica 2020, which took place last September.

Torino aims to offer practical support to event organizers with a focus on relevant issues, including accessibility, biodiversity and nature conservation, working conditions and social protection, energy, waste, noise, choice of materials, short supply chain, transport and logistics and emissions reducing into the atmosphere.

The City of Torino has long been committed to a sustainable, environmental development and adaptation to climate change. It acceded to processes such as the APE-GPP Protocol for Ecological Public Purchases, the Pact of Mayors for Climate and Energy, to the ISO certified Management Systems (Quality, Events and soon Energy) and it promoted the EU Ecolabel and the project “... towards sustainable tourism”.

In 2020 it was also the first Italian finalist city for the "European Green Capital" award; it received the "Covenant of Mayors" award of the Covenant of Mayors for large cities for demonstrating a growing commitment to implement the energy transition and the climate.
