SEPTEMBER 2024
It was 6 May 1994 when the notes of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Maestro Claudio Abbado inaugurated a new era for Torino's Lingotto with a memorable concert. In 1980, a competition of ideas chose Architect Renzo Piano's project to redevelop the majestic 1920s FIAT automobile factory, a monument of industrial architecture, transforming it into a multifunctional centre with an exhibition centre, office spaces, hotels and a shopping centre.
The Conference Centre completed the reconversion project and proposed itself to the meeting industry, definitively transforming the factory into a meeting place for people and ideas, without denying its past. 18 meeting rooms of various capacities including the Giovanni Agnelli Auditorium - the 1,900-seat modular hall with perfect acoustics - the 500 room, exhibition and catering areas: 24,000 square metres to accommodate up to 3,500 people.
The NATO meeting in 1995, the Intergovernmental Conference in 1996 with the photo of heads of state on the track brought the Lingotto's new role as an event venue into the spotlight. The World Political Forum in 2003, the Winter Olympic Games in Torino in 2006, and Expo 2015, to name but a few, have strengthened the Conference Centre's position in the panorama of international venues.
National and international medical-scientific congresses, associations, corporate conventions, symphonic and pop concerts took place in an increasingly busy calendar, also thanks to the collaboration with Turismo Torino e Provincia Convention Bureau, PCOs and trade associations.
Thanks to the professionals and participants who have shared these first 30 years with the Lingotto Conference Centre!
