The meeting industry in the capital of Piedmont recorded substantial growth in 2023 as well as Italian conference tourism. The outcomes about Torino that have emerged from the OICE (Italian Congress and Events Observatory) national survey, promoted by Federcongressi&eventi and developed by the Alta Scuola di Economia e Relazioni Internazionali dell'Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore – ASERI, have shown double-digit growth.
In fact, 10,962 events took place in 2023 (+19.8% over 2022) with 984,507 participants (+33.5% over 2022), for a total of 1,406,772 attendances (+33.1% over 2022), generating 14% of overnight stays in hotels in Torino and the metropolitan area. The average length per event was 1.3 days.
As usual, companies promoted the largest number of events (55.1%), 66.8% of which took place in business hotels, but the number of events promoted by associations has increased by 15 percentage points since 2022. 27.4% of events were held in venues such as arenas, unconventional spaces, theatres and museums, 3.5% in congress and exhibition centres and 2.3% in historical residences. Regarding the size of events, it is the category of arenas, institutional venues and unconventional spaces that hosted events with the most participants (49.5%), followed by hotels (37.4%), conference centres (10.7%) and lastly historical residences (2.4%). Good news also about international events which account for 10.1% of the total against 4.3% in 2022; national events rise to 35.9% against 22.2% in 2022.
